Northam is situated approximately 98 kilometres from Perth along the Great Eastern Highway. The town is a major regional centre in the Wheatbelt, with industry mainly in agriculture such as cereal crops and sheep. The town provides a wide range of community activities including swimming, football, cricket, hockey, basketball, horse racing and golf. Northam is famous for the annual Avon Descent whitewater race which begins in the town itself and finishes the next day in Perth.


Northam Regional Hospital

Northam Regional Hospital is a major site in the WR and operates services including aged care, accident/emergency, pathology and radiology. Built in 1997, the hospital is one of the newest buildings in the WR. The Northam Regional Hospital campus also incoporates Community Health, which offers services including Aboriginal health and social workers.

    Wheatbelt Public Health Unit

    In partnership with communities and health care providers, the Wheatbelt Public Health Unit has a role to respond to significant public health needs which have been detected and/or anticipated.

  • strategies to assist communities to make informed choices for a health lifestyle.
