Merredin is situated 260 kilometres east from Perth on the Great Eastern Highway in the Central Wheatbelt. The town is a major site between Kalgoorlie and Perth and is the hub for the Eastern region of the Wheatbelt Health Region. Merredin is accessible by car, train, bus or light plane.

Merredin offers a diverse range of educational and recreational opportunities in a relaxed rural environment and serves a local community population of 4300 people in an area of over 3300 square kilometres. The climate and landscape changes dramatically between seasons from the cool and lush in winter to red soil and crop stubble in the summer months.

    The Merredin Health Service includes Merredin District Hospital, Eastern Wheatbelt Community Health, and Eastern Wheatbelt Mental Health.

  • Exposure to and experience in the areas of trauma and emergency nursing including: paediatrics, multi-trauma and cardiac emergencies.
  • The opportunity to gain experience, skills and knowledge in a variety of surgical and nursing areas including orthopaedic, gynaecology and obstetrics and general surgical nursing.
  • Peri-operative nursing including experience as a scrub nurse, instruments nurse, scouting, anaesthetic assistant and/or recovery nurse if these are your areas of interest.
  • Midwifery experience including antenatal and postnatal care and parenthood lessons.
  • The opportunity to provide hospital based palliative care services in a private and restful setting which encourages the input of family and friends.
  • Residential nursing home and respite care services provided within our elegant purpose-built facility and the opportunity to gain knowledge and skills in the Commonwealth Aged Care Accreditation.
  • New graduate nurses are encouraged and assisted to consolidate their nursing knowledge and skills whilst practising in a friendly, supportive and professional environment.
